Liebster Award

Happy Sunday!! This week, I have been busy, busy, busy!! This morning, I woke up for church with a fun email from my friend Sarah from Tales of Teaching with Tech nominating me for the Liebster Award. I get to answer some questions about myself and then pass it on to others who are teacher bloggers like me! So, without further ado, my responses to her nomination are below:

1. Why and how long ago did you start blogging?
I started blogging this month!! I had been sporadically writing a blog (Erin's Oven Therapy) about baking and cooking, and really wanted to focus on my other love, teaching.
2.What one word sums up the heart of your blog and why?
Caffeinated!!  Basically it is about whatever makes me "me" as a teacher, and that requires a LOT of caffeine! I have many visions for the blog, and it is basically my way to reach out to other teachers in a new way.

3. Is there something you learned late in your blogging journey that you wish you wish you had known before?
I'm still a "newbie" to this world, but I am STILL looking for a great blog designer, so if you have any recommendations, I am willing to hear them!!

4. What is your favorite past time other than blogging?
I am a Disney junkie! I go as often as possible (Disneyland is about 5/6 hours' drive away)! I also like to craft, work with our youth group, cook, bake, create for TPT and spend time with my nephews!! [I am assuming teaching is also a "given"]

5. How many hours per week do you dedicate to your blog?
It's hard to tell sometimes! Sometimes I will blog daily, and sometimes I will go a week or two without blogging at all. Teachers know how this is!
6. What category of blog posts do you enjoy the most?
Real-life examples of thematic units, classroom decor blog post, and outfit ideas!

7. Which post that you've written are you most proud of?
I'm still pretty new, but I would say I am proud to have started at all! Maybe the announcement of opening my TPT store?

8. Is there any post that you've been planning to do but you've been postponing?
I have many new ideas milling around in this head of mine, and I have been writing down ideas in a notebook, so I need to just "put them to screen."

9. What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
Meeting new people! I'm fairly introverted, so it gives me a new avenue to open up to people.

10. Which recipe, project, or idea from my blog would you like to try yourself?
I love how Sarah painted her tables with white board paint. I am wondering if my admin would let me do that for my kiddos....

11. Favorite all time treat/thing that you hide in your desk drawer...that you pull out...when you've had a tough day.
Dr. Pepper and M&M's

Some bloggers include 11 random facts.... so here I go...
  1. I have taught every grade level PK-12.
  2. I HATE velvet and velour. My friends and family love to torture me with it.
  3. I have a list of words that make me cringe.... I won't share and give anyone ammunition! ;)
  4. I hate to run, but I enjoy it once I get going.
  5. I love reading about JFK/the Kennedys.
  6. I have winter eczema. So frustrating.
  7. One of my "Bucket List" items is to go to Rome.
  8. I carry hand sanitizer wherever I go.
  9. Dr. Pepper truly makes my "world taste better."
  10. So far, my favorite U.S. city is San Antonio, TX
  11. I would love to be a "professional foodie," if I wasn't a teacher!

Now.... I am going to nominate... for the Liebster Award.....

Here are the rules:
 1. Link back to the blog that nominated me
2. Nominate 5-11 blogs with fewer than 200 followers (this part is at the end)
3. Answer the questions posted for me by my nominator
4. Share 11 random facts about myself
5. Contact my nominees and let them know that I nominated them
and HAVE FUN!

Back to School!!

Tomorrow is the first day back with my students of 2015! I am sad to be waking up on a schedule, but SO excited to see the 26 kiddos I call my students! After I met up with my friend, Sarah, from Tales of Teaching with Tech on Friday, [who happens to be one of my great friends] I was encouraged to start creating for TPT [My store is here]. My first few products were not as fancy as my last few, but I think we all learn as we go, and I believe a good teacher is one who can modify as she/he checks for understanding and/or learns new approaches. I am still learning, but it has been a blast so far, and I am looking forward to creating more, as well as seeing how my students like all the jazzed-up assignments I have been making. :) Speaking of creating, if you know of any good blog designers who aren't booked through May, please let me know! I am not loving the basic blog, and want to make my blog appeal more exciting!

It's Official....

I am on TPT [Teachers Pay Teachers, for you non-addicts]!! Please follow me [and bear with my new-ness] at Very Perry Classroom!
Looking forward to hearing some positive feedback!

Back in the saddle again....

Yesterday, I went back to school to do some post-Christmas clean up.... I knew that Monday was quickly on it's way (although I am still having trouble remembering what day of the week it is), and wanted to make the jump back into routine as smooth as possible for me and the 26 kiddos I call "mine."
I brought in a lot of the goodies I got for Christmas and my birthday for the classroom, including the fun stuff from my December #Slantbox. I was feeling like a rebel with "ripped/torn" jeans and parking in the "visitor" spot in the parking lot. Whoooo. Living it UP!
I also did a little planning for January, aided by my January project binder and notes I had written for pre-planning. I also printed out copies of what I had on electronic file for January and the current Open Court (our curriculum for ELA) Unit, "Stick to It." I find that unit title ironic, as that is one of my goals for 2015, to "stick to" more of the commitments I make in the classroom and at school.
For those of you who know me, you know that I am doggedly committed to my word and promises, and HATE breaking those. But, as many of you also know, it is very difficult to always do everything the same allllll. the. time.... So, I am committed to getting my lesson planning early-ish so that I can go home before the sun... We'll see, come February, how well I am accomplishing that task, but that is my goal for now... What are your 2015 goals? Also, why is there a random boot on my classroom floor?

Happy 2015!

Hey there! I am excited to get started on my blogging journey this year! Here is a little about me:

  • I currently teach kindergarten in Central Valley California.
  • I have been teaching with an "official" contract for 4 years, but was a long-term sub for 3 years prior to that.
  • I love all things Disney. ALL THINGS. I have a Disneyland Annual Passport. My classroom is Disney themed.. More on that later.
  • I love to cook, bake, shop, craft, read, and travel.
  • I have 2 fantastic nephews who are so much fun! E is almost 3, and L is 5 months old.
  • I have a slight Pinterest problem...
  • I love, love, love to try new ideas in my class.
  • I work with the high school students at my church youth group.
  • My students strike me as hilarious, so I am often found quoting them..
So.... What do I hope for this blog to become??
I'd like to have a place to meet new teachers, post teacher outfit ideas, talk about what's happening in my classroom, and share what goes on outside of the classroom.... Join me!!
